Ex-wife still controls him

 Ex-wife still controls him

RelationshipsComments Dear Bunmi, I met my husband five years ago when he was separated from his wife. As soon as his divorce went through, we got married and his 16-year-old son now lives with us. He rarely sees his mother and she seldom calls him. They also have a 17-year-old daughter who opted to live with her mother. I’ve always been pleasant to her when she calls, yet she refuses to meet me. Her brother accepts me, so why can’t she? I’ve lost the will to be nice to her. After her calls, my husband tells me what she’s been up to, but I can’t be bothered to show any interest. His ex-wife has now started to ring him more often. She always wants him to solve one problem or the other, especially about their daughter. She was the one who caused an end to the marriage. In a few weeks, the daughter will be IS and she’s made plans for an elaborate birthday party in her house. His ex and their daughter are always asking for money and my husband is too soft to say no, despite knowing how upset this makes me. I don’t know what to do. Am I being unreasonable? I know my husband loves me, but having his ex around is making me unhappy. Demi, by e-mail. Dear Demi, A man needs to distance himself from his ex if he is to form a strong relationship with someone new. Although your husband divorced his wife, they remain emotionally tied and each would like to get over their hurt. The children too wouldn’t say no to reconciliation. You have walked into a family’s mess and it’s no wonder you feel insecure. Something has to give. The victims here are the two adolescent children who ‘re confused and harmed by the divorce. Do not think of them, or judge them as you would two adults. They’re insecure teenagers and you need to help them maintain good relationships with their parents. If the daughter remains hostile, grin and bear it. Forgive her resentment of a new wife who has intruded into her parents’ broken relationship. By trying to love your husband’s children you will strengthen the loyalty and affection he now gives you. Let him realise he needs to place more emphasis on your relationship instead of running to his ex at the slightest opportunity. Time, though, will sort this mess out and your soon-to-be-IS step-daughter will mellow once she starts committed dating.

A 55 year-old woman in the village of Horsarrieu located in the South West of France has done the unthinkable after reportedly hiding the corpse of her mother in a freezer.

This was in a bid to continue claiming the old age pension, £1,700, belonging to the deceased, the Mirror UK reports.
The body of the 90 year-old woman was found by the police after they launched an investigation and found the corpse of the deceased.
"They were hidden in a freezer, and there had been no report of the mother’s death.

The freezer was not connected to the electricity supply going into the house. It was just a hiding place," a prosecutor revealed.
The police believe that the old woman died a decade ago, contradicting claims made by the suspect who stated that her mother died seven years ago.
According to reports, there is a plan to conduct an autopsy to determine if the woman died of natural causes.

Even if the US remains part of the Paris climate accord, the best situation we can hope for is pretty worrisome.

President Donald Trump on Thursday announced his intent to withdraw the US from the Paris climate accord.
"We're getting out, but we will start to negoatiate to see if we can make a deal that is fair," Trump claimed during a televised briefing from the White House.
Trump's widely denounced decision comes on the heels of the hottest year the world has seen since 1880 — when scientists first started keeping global temperature logs — and the fifth annual heat record of the past dozen years.
Overall, planet Earth has warmed 2.3 degrees Fahrenheit (1.26 degrees Celsius) above preindustrial averages, which is dangerously close to the 2.7-degree-Fahrenheit (1.5-degree-Celsius) limit set by international policymakers for global warming. (Some argue this cutoff is arbitrary, though it could still rein in some of the most disruptive changes to human civilization.)
"There's no stopping global warming," Gavin Schmidt, a climate scientist who is the director of NASA's Goddard Institute of Space Studies, previously told Business Insider. "Everything that's happened so far is baked into the system."
That means that even if carbon emissions were to drop to zero tomorrow, we'd still be watching human-driven climate change play out for centuries. And we all know emissions aren't going to stop. So the key thing now, Schmidt said, is to slow climate change down enough to make sure we can adapt to it as painlessly as possible.
This is what the Earth could look like within 100 years if we succeed in curbing climate change with international agreements like the Paris climate accord (barring huge leaps in renewable energy or carbon-capture technology).
Sarah Kramer wrote a previous version of this post.

"I think the 1.5-degree [2.7-degree F] target is out of reach as a long-term goal," Schmidt said. He estimated that we will blow past that by about 2030.

But Schmidt is more optimistic about staying at or under 3.6 degrees F, or 2 degrees C, above preindustrial levels. That's the level of temperature rise the UN hopes to avoid.

Let's assume that we land somewhere between those two targets. At the end of this century, we'd be looking at a world that is on average about 3 degrees Fahrenheit above where we are now.

Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has said the reason for President Muhammadu Buhari's treatment in London is that he deserves the best treatment.

Mohammed explained in a radio interview on Thursday, June 1, 2017 that London medical practitioners and hospitals can offer Buhari the best treatment which he deserves as the President of Nigeria.
“My answer is very simple. Mr President is our father, he is the leader of the nation and I think he deserves the best in terms of medical treatment,” the minister said while responding to a caller that criticised the President for getting medical treatments abroad when he barred public officials for doing same.
Mohammed was a guest at a live radio programme, ‘Morning Crossfire’ on Nigeria Info 95.1FM.
The minister had earlier said there is no cause for alarm over President Muhammadu Buhari's health saying he is in very competent hands in London.
President Buhari departed on May 7, 2017, for an indefinite medical vacation to London after months of ill health.
First Lady, Aisha Buhari also joined her husband in London on Tuesday, May 30.

Ambode: 10 things you should know about sacked pastor saga

Ambode 10 things you should know about sacked pastor saga

Pastor Femi Taiwo has been axed from the Lagos State chapel. We've been following the story enough to share.

If you've been following the news like we do, the first lady of Lagos State, Bolanle Ambode and Chaplain of the Chapel of Christ the Light, Alausa, Femi Taiwo, aren't the best of buddies.

Actually, as we've got to learn, Mrs. Ambode and Taiwo haven't been seeing eye to eye for a while.
Here are a few other things we know:
1. Pastor Taiwo used to preside over a church which is under the Lagos State Ministry of Home Affairs.
Actually, the Office of the first lady supervises this church.
Bolanle Ambode, Akinwunmi Ambode and Femi Taiwo play Bolanle Ambode, Akinwunmi Ambode and Femi Taiwo
(Liveofofo.com)

Which implies that this church can be transformed into a plaything of the first lady if that's what she chooses to do.
For the purpose of this piece, let's refer to the first lady by her first name--Bolanle--henceforth.

2. Bolanle attended church service one fine Sunday and there was Taiwo; conducting the anointing session.
Exactly who she didn't want to see.
Let's just say at this point, she had come to hate the look of the 'good' Pastor.
Why had she come to loathe Pastor Taiwo so much?
We'll be telling you all of that in a minute if you could just hang in there....
3. According to reports reaching our news desk from the first lady's office, Pastor Taiwo was in the habit of visiting Bolanle without authorisation from the governing council of the church.
The governing council of the church wasn't aware of these meetings either.
4. According to a Premium Times version of events (as spilled by a source), Taiwo schooled the first lady on why he should be the “alpha and omega” on anything spiritual concerning Governor Ambode and his family".
Oh well, that was a tough ask, but what do we know?

5. Pastor Taiwo was also accused of insubordination and disdain for the first family.
It was learned that the Pastor fell out with the first family after someone else was hired as Governor Ambode's Special Adviser on Religious matters.
Premium Times quotes a source as saying: "Taiwo assumed wrongly that as the chaplain, it was his duty to play such roles and to act as the spiritual father to the First Family.”
Taiwo considered being overlooked for the position, a slight.
Someone else told Pulse that Taiwo hated the idea of other Pastors ministering in his church.
The Pastor has declined comments for this story.
6. Let's borrow a few paragraphs from a story run by Premium Times on this saga:
"Taiwo told the first lady that the small church inside the State House should be reporting to him. And that he would withdraw some of the staff if his demands were not granted, almost threatening the first lady,” one official said.
Bolanle Ambode (right) at a function play Bolanle Ambode (right) at a function
(Pulse)

"Mrs. Ambode, one of our sources said, was shocked by the clergyman’s attitude, and she promptly contacted the church’s Governing Council to complain.
"The Council “was shocked that Mr. Taiwo, a supposed man of God, could lie and misrepresent himself to the first lady, and immediately queried the clergyman, demanding explanation.”
7. When Bolanle arrived church with her entourage on May 14 during this special anointing service, she joined the queue of worshipers waiting to be anointed.
Except that Pastor Taiwo didn't accord Bolanle recognition befitting a Governor's wife.
Bolanle didn't like that she wasn't treated as a dignitary by Pastor Taiwo and stormed out of worship in a rage.
Bolanle Ambode play Bolanle Ambode (DailyTimes)

8. Next day, Taiwo became the ex-Pastor of Chapel of Christ the Light, Alausa.
He was also ordered out of the church's official quarters.
The last we heard, church members have been helping him settle down into his new life as an 'outcast'.
9. To rub some more salt into Taiwo's wounds, on Tuesday, May 30, 2017, the Lagos state chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), backed the Lagos State government and turned its back on Taiwo.
According to Alexander Bamgbola who is Lagos CAN chairman, sacking Taiwo was in order because “the governing council has the constitutional responsibility to recruit and terminate the appointments of officers who run the chapel.
“Two officers run the affairs of the chapel, the presiding chaplain and the chaplain. They are officers of the government, they are strictly employees of the state government and subject to terms and conditions of the government.”
play Governor Ambode attends function with family and friends (Punch)

“Having investigated the matter carefully and objectively, we wish to state that the governing council that recruited Venerable Femi Taiwo, acted within its constitutional authority to terminate his appointment.”
10. CAN also heaped plaudits on Bolanle Ambode.
According to Bamgbola: “Mrs Ambode is a true woman of God who fears God and lives a godly life. God raised her at this time.
“The social media should desist from circulating unfounded reports. The Bible said judge not that you should not be judged. This matter should be closed and be left for the church to handle. We are more than able to handle all matters.”
And on that note, we are off...

A notorious rapist, who is a member of a criminal gang headed by a man named “Badoo”, also recently arrested, has been set ablaze by a mob in Lagos.

According to Punch News, the rapist was arrested by the mob around 3 PM on Saturday,  in Ikorodu.
Recent reports revealed that residents in Ibese, Ikorodu, are of the opinion that the suspect arrested earlier by the police is not the real Badoo.
The unlucky rapist reportedly “sneaked into a Celestial Church of Christ in Itesiwaju, a suburb of Ibese, and abducted an eight-year-old girl, while a vigil was ongoing”, Punch reports.
The rapist, whose real name has not been disclosed allegedly raped the girl to coma and left her to die.
He was captured later in the day when he returned to the community.
An eyewitness, Fola, while narrating the incident to Punch, said, “They stripped him naked and beat the hell out of him.”
“One of the youths suggested that he should be set to fire and others agreed. They felt the police were not doing the needful on Badoo, who was arrested sometime ago.”
Dolapo Badmos, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, however condemned the jungle justice, stating that the people responsible for the act shall be made to face the consequence.

Biafra Have you ever heard of the 12-day Niger Delta Republic war?

Biafra Have you ever heard of the 12-day Niger Delta Republic war?

Before Biafra, there was the Niger Delta Republic led by Isaac Adaka Boro.

Today, Tuesday, May 30, 2017, marks the 50th anniversary of the failed Republic of Biafra.

For a week and some days, Biafra has dominated public discourse, social media and media in general. Nigerians have been debating about the civil war, what led to it and if we have learnt anything. Biafra obviously dominates the headlines with the huge loss of lives.

Unknown to many the Nigerian Civil War wasn't the only war that happened in Nigeria. On February 23, 1966, Isaac Adaka Boro formed the Niger Delta Volunteer Force (NDVF).

The NDVF was formed 40 days after January 15, 1966, coup, the first military coup in Nigeria's history. Annoyed and disgruntled about the plight of the Nigerians from the South-South, Boro declared the Niger Delta Republic.

It was an attempt by the former police inspector to wrestle his people from the unstable Nigerian system that had sidelined his people in the grand scheme of things. On this day, the Niger-Delta seceded from the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
"Today is a great day, not only in your lives but also in the history of the Niger Delta. Perhaps, it will be the greatest day for a very long time. This is not because we are going to bring the heavens down, but because we are going to demonstrate to the world what and how we feel about oppression… Remember your 70-year-old grandmother who still farms before she eats; remember also your poverty-stricken people; remember, too, your petroleum which is being pumped out daily from your veins; and then fight for your freedom" said the 27-year-old Boro on the historic day.
The rebellion did not last long.  Isaac Adaka Boro and 159 men fought against Nigerian forces. The battle did not last more than two weeks as the NDVF forces were crushed.

Isaac Adaka Boro was arrested and almost executed. During the Biafran War, he was tasked by General Yakubu Gowon to fight against Biafra. Boro was an exceptional soldier who led Nigerian troops to key decisive battles and victories.

He never lived to see a unified Nigeria. He was killed in Rivers state on May 9, 1968, in mysterious circumstances.

World's largest airplane is rolled out

CNN

(CNN)Even if you had been allowed to kick the tires as the world's largest airplane was rolled out for the first time Wednesday, it might have taken you a while.
Stratolaunch -- which is designed to release rockets that will carry satellites into space -- has a 385-foot wingspan, features six engines used by the Boeing 747, stands 50 feet tall and can carry more than 500,000 pounds of payload.
And it has those 28 wheels.
The twin-fuselage aircraft, the baby of Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, was pulled out of its Mojave Air and Space Port hangar in California to begin fueling tests -- the first of many ground tests.
Jean Floyd, Stratolaunch's chief executive officer, said the goal is to have a launch demonstration as early as 2019.
"Over the coming weeks and months, we'll be actively conducting ground and flight line testing at the Mojave Air and Space Port," Floyd said in a statement. "This is a first-of-its-kind aircraft, so we're going to be diligent throughout testing and continue to prioritize the safety of our pilots, crew and staff."
the An-225 is about 275 feet.
Also, aviation mogul Howard Hughes' legendary H-4 "Spruce Goose," which flew only once in 1947, has an enormous wingspan of 320 feet -- not as wide as the Stratolaunch.
The Ukrainian-built Antonov An-225 is longer than the Stratolaunch.
Allen, owner of the NBA's Portland Trail Blazers and the NFL's Seattle Seahawks, has written about his desire to see more use of low Earth orbit without breaking the bank.
"With aircraft-like operations, our reusable launch platform will significantly reduce the long wait times traditionally experienced between the construction of a satellite and the opportunity to launch it into space," he wrote last year.
Stratolaunch will take off from a runway. It will fly to the approximate cruising altitude of a commercial airliner before launching a launch vehicle. "As the launch vehicle rockets into orbit, Stratolaunch will fly back to a runway landing for reloading, refueling and reuse," Allen says.
Allen's Vulcan Aerospace has worked with aerospace pioneer Burt Rutan's company, Scaled Composites, on the ambitious project.
The duo collaborated on the launch of SpaceShipOne in 2004.
Allen isn't the only US billionaire with the dreams and pockets big enough to take on space.
Jeff Bezos, the Amazon CEO, and Elon Musk, the Tesla and SpaceX CEO, have distinguished themselves as the must-watch innovators pushing hardest to bring the future to us today.
In late March, SpaceX made history by successfully launching a used rocket into space. And the company plans to fly two customers around the moon in 2018. It's already delivered satellites and has made resupply trips to the International Space Station.
Like Musk, Bezos wants to reuse rockets to drive down the cost of space travel. But for the time being, Blue Origin is mostly interested in conducting suborbital flights for tourists.
CNN's Matt McFarland, Thom Patterson and Jackie Wattles contributed to this report
