Deeper Life Bible Church has finally completed its headquarters church valued at over N5 billion ($11 million) in Gbagada. The 30,000 capacity church project had gone on for about 13 years managed by Cappa and D’alberto.

The project which was initially scheduled to last 8 years had been billed for completion in 2012 but the church suffered some setbacks. It is now the 4th largest completed church auditorium in the world.

Nigeria presently has a plethora of mega church buildings under construction, all of which rank among the largest in the world. The MFM Temple with a capacity of 500,000, Faith Theatre which is 100,000, Salvation Ministries-90,000, The Great Tabernacle of The Apostolic Faith Mission-75,000 and The Lords Garden of Dunamis International Christian Centre-70,000 are all under construction and are billed to be the five largest auditoria in the world in that order when completed.

Deeper Life Church has built numerous secondary schools, a newly completed university recently approved and also constructing a 130,000 capacity conference centre (Deeper Life Conference Centre) at the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Arguably, Pastor Kumuyi’s N4 billion 30,000 seater ultra modern auditorium would be one of the grandest church in Africa when completed. ENCOMIUM Weekly’s check on Friday, February 28, 2014, revealed that the massive structure would be completed and commissioned this year. We gathered that the project which began seven years ago could not be completed as scheduled in 2012, due to architectural and technical adjustments to expand the work.

Built like a stadium, we confirmed that the auditorium sits on an underground structure. According to an inside source, the administration building is underground with a car park. The underground park, we reliably learnt, would take 160 cars.

It would seat more than 30,000 worshippers at a go. It is a mini-stadium and is costing the church over N4 billion, and every kobo of it is coming from the pockets of church members in Nigeria with generous contributions from Deeper Life churches abroad.

20140228_114715An Italian firm, Cappa & D’Alberto won the contract for the construction. The building will cover 6,200 square metres, with an additional 16,244 square metres for landscaping, walks and car parks. It will be a sight to behold when it is completed.

Checks revealed that the outer structure has been painted cream with a touch of light green. Interestingly, the auditorium covered a whole side of a street. Pastor Kumuyi spent over N500 million on expansion as its ultra modern worldwide headquarters is completed.Inline image 3 depper2

Anambra State governor, Willie Obiano, on Wednesday warned the Indigenous People of Biafra to steer clear of the state during the November 18 poll.
The governor threatened to go after anybody who would pose a threat to the poll, no matter how highly placed.
The governor, who insisted that there would be election in the state, said the pro-Biafra agitators had no powers in the law to stop the poll.
He warned those planning to disrupt the election to have a rethink or be ready to face the full weight of the law.
He said “We are going to go after them, we will deal with those who said there would be no election in the state decisively.
“People are free to vote candidates of their choice, you can see that in Anambra state today people now sleep with their two eyes closed,” he insisted.
IPOB had  threatened that there would be no election in Anambra state and the entire South East zone.
It was also gathered that the secessionist group had planned to attack campaign rallies in the state to create fears in the people about the poll.

A Nigerian man, Omowale Isaac Omogoroye, is in the news after he claimed to be the long awaited Jesus Christ and will surely be the next President in the country.

Omogoroye made the shocking declaration in an interview with Sahara TV in Lagos, adding that he has been given the divine mandate to occupy Aso Rock, the seat of the nation's power come 2019.
Omogoroye, a one time President of the Students' Union government of the University of Lagos, added that he has been appearing in different countries of the world as the awaited son of God expected to redeem the world.

He added that as soon as he becomes the President of Nigeria, the government will change its name to the New Jerusalem of the Bible.
He also disclosed that those waiting for a white Jesus to come back are waiting in vain as he is already the awaited saviour of the world and has come back to his full glory.
In the video that lasted 15 minutes and 32 seconds, Omogoroye said he has come in the new name of God as documented in the Bible and that his mission is to let everyone know that Jesus Christ is back.
He said:
“Today, I’m appearing to the whole world as the one and only son of God expected back to life and I come in the new name of God as documented in the only living book, the Bible in Revelation chapter 3 v 17.

Revelations chapter 2:5, 2:7, and 2: 1 also confirms what I am saying. What I’m trying to say is that I’m the awaited Jesus Christ. My mission here is to let the world know that Jesus Christ is back.

The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party has begun moves to whittle down the power of its chairman, The PUNCH has learnt.
Investigations by our correspondent in Abuja on Thursday showed that the proposal to strip the national chairman of some of his enormous powers was contained in a memo to the National Executive Committee of the party by the Chairman of its National Caretaker Committee, Senator Ahmed Makarfi.
The memo was given to all members of NEC on Tuesday at its 74th meeting, which was held at the party’s national headquarters.

The members were asked to give the documents to officers and influential members of the party in their states in order to have their inputs before passing them into law.
Makarfi, in the memo, titled ‘Draft proposals for constitutional amendments’, said the memo was as a result of the adoption of the report of the PDP Strategy Review and Inter-Party Affairs Committee.
He said because of this, “it has become imperative that the PDP Constitution (2012 as amended) be amended to reflect some of the recommendations.”
The proposed amendments are expected to be passed at the party’s non-elective national convention slated for August 12 in Abuja.

In one of the proposals, titled ‘Removal of the power of the national chairman to summon (convene) the national convention’, the party wants the NEC to be the sole determinant of national convention without it being “summoned” by the national chairman.
The proposed amendments read in part, “Modifying Section (1)(a) and inserting a new Section(1)(b) to take away the power of the national chairman to ‘summon “ the National Convention, which appears in conflict with the power of NEC to ‘convene’ the National Convention  in Section (31(2)(a).
It said this was in line with “August 2016 Port Harcourt proposed amendment”.
The former National Chairman of the party, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, had invoked the power conferred on him in Section 35(1) of the party constitution to call off the then May, 2016 convention of the party in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The section reads, “There shall be a national chairman who shall be the chief executive of the party, and his functions shall be to (a) summon and preside over the meetings of the national convention, the National Executive Committee, the National Caucus and the National Working Committee of the party.”
If the proposed amendments scale through, the next chairman will also not be a signatory to the party’s bank accounts anymore.
Up until now, the national chairman is a mandatory signatory to the party’s bank accounts.
Under the topic ‘Revising signatories to the party’s accounts’, the party proved that “consistent with contemporary best practices, it is proposed that the present situation, where the chairman is a mandatory signatory to the party’s bank account with either the secretary or the treasurer, be replaced with the treasurer being mandatory signatory, with either the secretary or financial secretary.”
This will replace Section (55)(3) of the party’s constitution.
The party also proposed the reintroduction of Section (47)(6), which was revised in the December 2014 national convention, in which the appropriate executive committee’s appointment of a person from the area or zone of the former occupant of an office “to serve out the tenure of the officer” instead of “pending the conduct of election to fill the vacant post.”

The proposed amendment also seems to be preparing a soft landing for those who had left the party and those who might want to join it from another party ahead of the 2019 general elections.
Under the procedure for rejoining the party, the proposed amendment states that the return of those who had left it before should be made automatic.
This is contrary to the old order whereby those returning are placed on probation for a period of not less than a year.

The proposal therefore called for the deleting of Section 8(8)(b), Section (8)(9) and modification of Section (8)(8) to make rejoining and readmission into the party by a member, who had left, automatic upon his submission of a written application to that effect to his ward secretary.
But it said, “Whereas, readmission is automatic, waiver requirements for contesting elections and enjoying political appointments remain, and, if thought necessary, would be strengthened.”
Also, the party is proposing that Section (50)(4)(7) be amended by reducing the period of membership for seeking the party’s ticket and political appointment from two years and one year respectively to a “uniform of six months unless the appropriate executive committee, at its discretion, gives a waiver to the contrary.”
The party is also proposing the election of two national chairmen for the party, one from the North and another from the South.

However, “in the event that the National chairman ceases to hold office or when absent for any reason,” the proposal stated that the vice-chairman from the region of the national chairman would act pending when a substantial chairman would be elected.

Meanwhile, the North-Central zone of the party met at the Command Guest House in Abuja on Wednesday night and resolved to set up reconciliation committee to wade into the crisis rocking the party in the zone.
At the meeting were a former President of the Senate, David Mark; a former National Chairman of the party, Senator Ahmadu Ali; former governors of Kogi State, Ibrahim Idris and Idris Wada; their Benue and Plateau states counterparts, Gabriel Suswam and Senator Jonah Jang; and a former Governor of Niger State, Babangida Aliyu.

Another suit has been filed before the Federal High Court in Abuja asking for an order compelling the Federal Executive Council to declare ailing President Muhammadu Buhari unfit to continue to hold office and another mandating the National Assembly to constitute a medical panel to verify his fitness.

The suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/671/2017, was filed on Thursday by the incorporated trustees of a civil society group, Kingdom Human Rights Foundation International.

Joined as respondents to the suit are the Acting President Yemi Osinbajo, the Executive Council of the Federation (otherwise known as the Federal Executive Council), the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami (SAN), and the National Assembly.

Barely three weeks ago, a Nigerian based in the United States of America, Mr. Toyin Dawodu, filed a suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/508/2017, on June 28, asking the court to compel Saraki to constitute a medical panel on Buhari’s health status.

People cover their noses at the stench of death in the Crystal Church of God in Owode Onirin, just outside Lagos, where bloody clothes, drums, bibles and hymn books still litter the bare floor.

Three days earlier, four worshippers were killed as they prayed, in the latest murders blamed on a shadowy gang dubbed the Badoo, believed to have killed 30 people since June last year.
So-called "cult killings" -- gang violence often fuelled by drugs and belief in black magic -- are not a new phenomenon in Nigeria, which is nearly evenly split between a Muslim north and Christian south.
Crime often spikes during times of economic hardship.
But the murders by the Badoo are making headlines because of their increasing frequency and the manner in which victims are dispatched.
"They must have scaled the fence and hypnotised the victims before carrying out their deadly act," Israel Ojobaro, an engineer who lives on the church premises, told AFP.
"Two women and two children, including a nine-month-old baby, had their heads smashed with a grinding stone."
The gang then moved to another church on the same street to steal money and mobile phones.
"They must have used (magic) charms as no one noticed when they entered the church. By the time the worshippers were awake, their phones and money had been taken away," said church head Taiwo Adesanya.

Fear and a lack of faith in the police to protect them has prompted residents to watch over their communities. Every night, bonfires are lit on the streets between 10:00 pm and 6:00 am.
Anyone caught on suspicion of being a member of the gang is immediately lynched, locals said.
Police say vigilantes have killed at least 10 suspects in the last month. Innocent people have been targeted.
The Badoo saga started last year when a female schoolteacher was raped and killed in the Ibeshe area of Ikorodu, which lies 10 kilometres (six miles) from Lagos across the lagoon as the crow flies.
The woman's skull was smashed with a stone. Before leaving, the gang wrote "Badoo" on the wall. Since then, there have been similar killings across the town.
Members of the gang are believed to have magical powers which they use to mysteriously appear and disappear during attacks.
"Initially, we thought (the Ibeshe case) was just a case of robbery," said resident Olubare Ademola.
"But we began to take them more seriously when we realised they have been using the same style."
Last month, a man, his 28-year-old wife and two children, were killed in the Odogunyan area of Ikorodu. Other killings have occurred in quick succession.
The gang is said to drain the blood of their victims into a calabash or gourd, then soak it onto a white handkerchief.
"The rumour is that Badoo sells the blood-stained handkerchief to ritualists who use it for money and power charms," said Babatunde Ogunyemi, a traditional chief in Ibeshe, in the south of Ikorodu."
"Each handkerchief costs 500,000 naira ($1,600, 1,400 euros). This explains why Badoo usually wipe out an entire family in order to make more money."
Local people in Ibeshe have turned to traditional methods to fight the gang and claim to have driven them from the area after making animal sacrifices to local deities, according to Ogunyemi.

200 suspects arrested

Despite the prevalence of Islam and Christianity in Nigeria, belief in black magic (juju) remains widespread, particularly outside the main cities.
A joint military operation has been launched to flush out a number of gangs from in and around Ikorodu, where schoolchildren have also been kidnapped.
"We received an intelligence report that some cultists (gang members) were trying to form an umbrella body called '777' and we quickly moved in to abort it," a senior army officer told AFP on July 7.
As he spoke, soldiers jumped down from a convoy of pick-up trucks and ran towards the Ikorodu creeks in search of suspected Badoo members and other gangs.
"It's going to be a continuous exercise until we are able to make the communities safe and secure," the officer said.
The police in Lagos state said they had arrested and were interrogating some 200 suspects over the Badoo killings.
"Those with no case to answer will be released," said police spokesman Olarinde Famous-Cole.
Lagos state governor Akinwunmi Ambode met with traditional rulers in Ikorodu last week and urged them to collaborate with his government to "arrest this situation as quickly as possible".

Applicants should possess any of the following educational and/professional qualifications:
– West African School Certificate/Senior Secondary School Certificate.
– General Certificate of Education Ordinary Level.
– WAEC City and Guilds or London City and Guilds.
– Ordinary National Diploma (OND).
– Any other educational qualification equivalent to those mentioned above.
– All applicants must produce their primary school leaving certificate.
– Applicants are to note that entry requirement into the following categories is SSCE or equivalent: B1, B2, B3, B4, B5, C1, D1, D2, D4, D5, D6, E1, E2, E3, E4, F1, G, H. Any other additional qualifications in these categories can only serve as an added advantage for selection into the branch and not for advancement.
Any applicant possessing higher educational /professional qualification, i.e. HND, BA/BSc, etc other than those stated in Paragraph 1 (a-g) should not apply. Candidates are therefore warned that it is an offence to declare false educational /professional qualification. This attracts outright withdrawal or dismissal and hand over to Civil Police for prosecution.

Applicants must be of Nigerian origin by birth. Applicants with any of the following problems are NOT to apply: short sight, ear problem, previous orthopaedic operation, flat foot, below the required height (Male 1.70, Female 1.67), fracture, stammering or any natural disability.
Applicants must be free from any previous conviction by court of law on criminal charges.

The non-stop rain in Lagos this month has led to heavy flooding in most parts of the metropolis.

 

Areas such as Lekki, Victoria Island, Victoria Garden City, Ajah and environs are presently flooded. This week has witnessed heavy rainfall during this wet season. The Island has suffered the most from the downpour within the last few days. Places like Lekki and Victoria Island have always been prone to floods this time of year.
 
Yesterday's rain as well as the downpour this morning has trapped many people in their homes on the Island section of Lagos. Thousands of homes have been flooded. Major roads are impassable because of the flood.
Lagosians residing within these areas have uploaded several videos on social media on the impact of the flooding.  As a result of this, Lekki is the number one trend on Twitter presently. Also, Island, which stands for Lagos Island is also trending on the micro-blogging site.
