The Forbes Rich List for 2017 says there are 2,043 billionaires in the world.

This represents an additional  233 more than last year. Their riches accumulate to more than $7.67 trillion (£5.9 trillion).

Currently, there are 25 African billionaires, up from 24 last year. Nigerian businessmen Femi Otedola and Abdulsamad Rabiu failed to make the cut this year.

Mohammed Dewji of Tanzania is still the youngest billionaire in Africa with a fortune FORBES estimates at $1.09 billion.

Angolan investor Isabel dos Santos and oil tycoon Folorunsho Alakija of Nigeria still remain the only two female billionaires on the continent.

Of the total number of billionaires in the world, 25 are Africans residents and almost all of them have been through a university. Our results reveal that very few of the continent's billionaires had their education on the African continent.

Business Insider Sub Saharan Africa dived into the academic history of the super rich on the continent to find which African university they attended.
