Three Feet From Gold

aaa One of the most common causes of failure is the habit of quitting when one is overtaken by temporary defeat. Every person is guilty of this mistake at one time or another. An uncle of R. U. Darby was caught by the “gold fever” in the gold-rush days, and went west to DIG AND GROW RICH. He had never heard that more gold has been mined from the brains of men than has ever been taken from the earth. He staked a claim and went to work with pick and shovel. The going was hard, but his lust for gold was definite.
After weeks of labor, he was rewarded by the discovery of the shining ore. He needed machinery to bring the ore to the surface. Quietly, he covered up the mine, retraced his footsteps to his home in Williamsburg, Maryland, told his relatives and a few neighbors of the “strike.” They got together money for the needed machinery, had it shipped. The uncle and Darby went back to work the mine.

If You Love Her Enough- A true life story

My friend John always has something to tell me. He knows so much that young men have to have older and more worldly wise men to tell them. For instance who to trust, how to care for others, and how to live life to the fullest.

Recently, John lost his wife Janet. For eight years she fought against cancer, but in the end her sickness had the last word.

One day John took out a folded piece of paper from his wallet. He had found it, so he told me, when he tidied up some drawers at home. It was a small love letter Janet had written. The note could look like a school girl's scrawls about her dream guy. All that was missing was a drawing of a heart with the names John and Janet written in it. But the small letter was written by a woman who had had seven children; a woman who fought for her life and who probably only had a few months left to live.

It was also a beautiful recipe for how to keep a marriage together.

Janet's description of her husband begins thus: "Loved me. Took care of me. Worried about me."

Even though John always had a ready answer, he never joked about cancer apparently. Sometimes he came home in the evening to find Janet in the middle of one of those depressions cancer patients so often get. In no time he got her into the car and drove her to her favourite restaurant.

All Because of Love

Because of LoveA brother and sister had made their usual hurried, obligatory pre-Christmas visit to the little farm where dwelt their elderly parents with their small herd of horses.
By Willy Eagle
The farm was where they had grown up and had been named "Lone Pine Farm" because of the huge pine, which topped the hill behind the farm. Through the years the tree had become a talisman to the old man and his wife, and a landmark in the countryside.

Awesome Inventions
Once, in high school, we found the abandoned fuselage of a Cessna behind a church dumpster. We planned to take it, put it in the quad at school overnight, and enjoy watching the administration pace and fret. We thought we were creative for this idea (that never came to fruition), but we had nothing on this man named Bruce Campbell, who turned an abandoned airplane into a home.

ACT 1= FOUNDATIONS What’s Wrong with This Picture?

What’s Wrong with This Picture?

It’s estimated that Americans spend $11 billion (that’s a bbillion)
a year on self-help products—everything from books to DVDs to
diet pills—while American companies spend over $400 billion a
year on professional development programs for their employees.
Personally, I think those are very low estimates; especially when
you consider all the weight-loss programs, exercise equipment,
business books, and everything else you could put in the category
of self-help.
(Yes, I know there are a lot of other, fancier terms for this: personal
growth, self-improvement, professional development, etc.
But for now, let’s just agree to call it self-help, OK?)
Actually, I call most of this information SHELF-help—because
that’s where most of it goes—on the shelf along with all the rest of
