WORD FOR THE DAY: Zero-Based Gratitude

Zero-Based Gratitude

There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.
- Albert Einstein

Zero-Based Gratitude

Perhaps you have heard of zero-based budgeting as a technique for governments, businesses, and occasionally individuals. Zero-based budgeting is in contrast to traditional incremental budgeting. In incremental budgeting, one starts with the budget for the last year, or other period, and prepares a budget for the next period based on the budget for the last period - incorporating whatever increases, or very occasionally decreases, are deemed appropriate.

Zero-based budgeting begins with a base-line of no expenditures, rather than the base-line of last year's expenditures. Each and every proposed expense must be justified on its own merits rather that falling back on the argument that it was in the last year's budget, and that everybody expects and demands it.

Most people's gratitude is incremental gratitude. If they receive a raise, a bigger house, a third car, a new love interest, or a healthy new baby, they are grateful. If they lose their job, are forced to downsize, have a tiff with their spouse, or have an illness in the family, they are disappointed and angry. Why disappointed and angry? Because they have not been blessed with as much today as they were yesterday.

Suppose our gratitude could be zero-based gratitude. With zero-based gratitude, we would be grateful for everything we had each day - regardless of whether it was more or less than yesterday. With zero-based gratitude, I can be grateful for a warm comfortable one-bedroom apartment, even if I had a four bedroom house yesterday. I can be grateful for being able to walk, even if I could run yesterday. I can be grateful for all the people, the love, the food, the shelter, the services, the health, that I am blessed with today, regardless of what I had yesterday. With zero-based gratitude, I can be grateful each day for the gift of life itself.

WORD FOR THE DAY: Stop Anger Before It Stops You - 7 Secrets

Stop Anger Before It Stops You - 7 Secrets
- jonathan lockwood huie

Being angry is as close as a human being can come to experiencing hell on earth.
- jonathan lockwood huie
Anger is something that each one of us has experienced - some of us only occasionally, some almost daily. Can we eliminate all anger? Probably not. We will always have expectations, and those expectations will often be unmet. Disappointment is the principle cause of anger. When we are disappointed, we look for someone to blame. Declaring someone to be at fault is the nature of anger. Anger is always directed at someone - possibly God or the non-specific they, but some animate entity.
You've told yourself a hundred times that you aren't going to get angry - really angry - ever again, but wham, you start to feel that telltale heat, locked shoulders, clenched jaw, shallow breathing. Someone has just done something really awful and you are angry at them. What now?
Here are my 7 Secrets to Stop Anger before It Stops You:
1. Recognize when you are angry: It may not immediately occur to you that you are angry. You know that you have been wronged, and you can see everyone around you take a step back, but especially if you are really angry, it may take a while to gain the clarity to acknowledge your anger. Anger clouds perception and thinking, so make a special effort to spot it early and put it into words, "I am angry."
2. Breathe deeply: Concentrate on taking slow deep breaths. Sometimes this is all it takes to break out of anger and gain clarity on the issue. At other times, breathing deeply is just a beginning, but it paves the way for the rest of the secrets.
3. Focus your anger: Get clear what you are angry about and who you are angry at. Talk to yourself, "I am angry at Joe because he ..." Don't let your anger expand onto innocent bystanders, especially those trying to help calm you down. Don't refocus your anger onto everything that Joe has ever done or failed to do.
4. Remember that you are in charge: Anger is an expression of frustration and helplessness. Remember that you always have options - you can design your own life. No one can steal your happiness - unless you let them.
5. Look for the silver lining: There is a silver lining to every disappointment. Your boss fired you and you are furious. Probably it was a blessing. Now you have the opportunity to get a better job that you really enjoy.
6. Consider forgiveness: Angry and happy don't mix. Flush out the angry, and the happy has a place to put down roots. Forgive everyone for everything in order to give anger and resentment a chance to fade. Forgive and you can become happy. Forgiving is not a gift to someone else - Forgiving is our gift to ourselves - a great gift - the gift of happiness.
7. Accept that Life is NOT "Supposed to be Fair": Know that there is no single way that life is "supposed" to be. Demanding that life meet our expectations is a sure fire recipe for a miserable existence. Life is a game with no rules. Life just happens to us regardless of our best intentions. To choose happiness, be open to receiving whatever life throws at you - with Gratitude. Have NO Expectations of life.

WORD FOR THE DAY: Choose Your Habits, Choose Your Life - 5 Secrets For Breaking Your Bad Habits

Choose Your Habits, Choose Your Life - 5 Secrets For Breaking Your Bad Habits

Choose Your Habits, Choose Your Life - 5 Secrets For Breaking Your Bad Habits
- Jonathan Lockwood Huie

By nature, we are all creatures of habit. We instinctively adopt familiar routines for most activities. We eat about the same number of meals each day - at more or less the same times. We have a regular pattern of sleeping - unless it is perturbed by illness or shift work. Most everything we do is habitual.

You probably eat three meals each day, but why? Why not two or five? There is nothing particularly "natural" about our pattern of eating three meals each day - it is just a habit that we share with most of those around us. Actually, a number of studies indicate that eating five smaller meals is more satisfying and healthier than eating three large ones.

You will always have habits - things you do regularly and without conscious thought - but you do have the ability to CHOOSE your habits. Here's how...

1. Begin to pay attention to WHAT you do, WHEN you do it, and WHY you do it. One of the bad habits I fell into was eating a large dish of ice cream in the late evening. Obviously, "ice cream" was the "what," but the "when" was more than just "in the evening." "When" was times I felt stressed, hadn't had a satisfying dinner, or was bored. "Why" was mouth sensation, having something to do with my hands, and sometimes hunger.

2. Keep a journal of the "what", "when," and "why." Make an entry whenever you find yourself doing something that isn't really your choice. You will find that you gain better insight into the "when's" and "why's" as you get more entries in your journal. Soon a pattern will emerge that can enable you to find healthy habits to replace the harmful ones.

3. Look for other activities that would satisfy the "when" and "why." A hot bath for stress, hard candy for mouth sensation, a good book for activity, a warm bowl of soup for real hunger.

4. Make the undesirable activity difficult. Don't keep the cigarettes or ice cream in the house. When ice cream was in my own freezer, it was hard to resist, but when eating a dish of super chocolate chunk required a trip to the convenience store, it was much easier to turn my attention to other activities and a low calorie snack - if any snack at all.

5. Begin new habits not only because you need them to replace unhealthy ones, but also because they are the things you always wanted to do, but couldn't find the time or money. That book club or yoga class makes a great substitute for the eating or smoking, and you can more than pay for your health club membership with what you save on cigarettes.

WORD FOR THE DAY: 7 Secrets of Happy Couples

7 Secrets of Happy Couples

Why do some couples stay happy together for a lifetime, while others are in conflict almost from the beginning?

Part of the answer is compatibility - making the initial choice of a partner with whom you share common values. Equally much, however, depends upon the choices each partner chooses to make during the relationship. Here are seven choices made by happy couples:

1. Trust: Suspicion and jealousy are the death knell of any relationship. If the other is going to cheat or otherwise dishonor the relationship, suspicion and jealousy will not prevent it, and such a relationship is fatally flawed in any case. Unwarranted suspicion and jealousy create misery in a surprising number of relationships. If you want to live happily, trust your partner completely. If they dishonor your trust, deal with the situation then. In the meanwhile, you will have been happy.

2. Open Communication: Tell the truth, tell the whole truth. If you didn't want to share your whole life with your partner, why are you together? If you make a mistake, admit it. If you have doubts, talk about them. Secrets and lies kill a relationship. With truth and openness anything is possible. Even if something is unforgivable, it is better to deal with it quickly.

3. Honoring the other's point-of-view: People disagree, couples disagree. Understanding that the two partners in a couple remain individuals is crucial to a happy relationship. Why would you expect that you and your partner should agree on everything? Honor that one of you is a Republican and the other a Democrat. Honor that one of you is a vegetarian and the other loves a great steak.

4. Self-Confidence: Co-dependence is another frequent cause of failed relationships. Happy couples know that they don't need each other. Each partner is a completely whole and valid individual who has entered into a voluntary partnership. Neither "owns" the other, nor "can't live without" the other. Each has their own interests and friends, as well as having mutual interests and friends.

5. Generosity: Greed and selfishness kill relationships. True love is generous in spirit. Mostly, generosity is not about material things, although that is also important. To have a happy relationship, be generous of your time, your love, and your attention.

6. Forgiveness: Resentments and thoughts of revenge and vengeance have no place in a happy relationship. Happy couples forgive each other completely for everything the other has ever done or failed to do - no exceptions.

7. Gratitude: Happy couples are continuously grateful for each other. Every day there are a myriad of reasons to be grateful for your partner. Find those reasons each day, and thank your partner every day.

BOOK OF LIFE-Nathaniel Bassey Lyrics

Nathaniel Bassey Lyrics

This is the story of a brother
Who slept and woke up in Foreverland
He looked around, nothing's familiar
He wondered how he got to be there
He took a walk around the city
And saw this brick house with a small door
He walked into the room and saw a man in white
Must be an angel so he said:
"Mr. Angel I'm a stranger, don't know what's going on
The last thing I remember was I slept last night"

This is a border town that takes you where you get a crown
Must have heard of Heaven where you came from
Only those whose name I find
Written in this book of life
Will forever be in paradise

Is your name in this book of life?
Is your name in this book of life here?
Is your name in this book of life?
Is your name in this book of life here?

Flipping the pages of this great book
This brother gave a cursory gaze
He saw the names of prophets, saints and martyrs
Who kept the faith and won the race
But he said "Mr. Angel, where is my name?"
"Can you tell me what is going wrong?
"I'm a pillar in my local church
Give the offerings and the tithes
Feed the poor and have myself a good name"

Is my name in this book of life?
Is my name in this book of life here?
Tell me is my name in this book of life?
Is my name in this book of life here?

Unforgiveness lurks within your heart
Some folks that you will never let go
Little foxes and secret faults
Will spring surprises on that final day

Oh oh oh...

So much for this wonder brother
What about you? What about me?
Let him who thinks that he stands
Let him take heed lest he falls
Only the pure in heart will see Jesus
Those whose garment glow with purity

Is your name in that book of life?
Is your name in that book of life there?
Is your name in that book of life?
Tell me is your name in that book of life there?
Think about it

Inner Smile Exercise:
1. Breath slowly, deeply, and consciously.
2. Close your eyes and set the corners of your mouth in just the slightest smile.
3. Visualize your smile growing larger and larger, and your happiness increasing.

Deeper Life Completes Its Headquarters Church, the World’s 4th Largest Auditorium - Religion

DEEPER LIFE

Deeper Life Completes Its Headquarters Church, the World’s 4th Largest Auditorium - Religion

Inline image 1
Deeper Life Bible Church has finally completed its headquarters church valued at over N5 billion ($11 million) in Gbagada. The 30,000 capacity church project had gone on for about 13 years managed by Cappa and D’alberto.

dex1
The project which was initially scheduled to last 8 years had been billed for completion in 2012 but the church suffered some setbacks. It is now the 4th largest completed church auditorium in the world.

Nigeria presently has a plethora of mega church buildings under construction, all of which rank among the largest in the world. The MFM Temple with a capacity of 500,000, Faith Theatre which is 100,000, Salvation Ministries-90,000, The Great Tabernacle of The Apostolic Faith Mission-75,000 and The Lords Garden of Dunamis International Christian Centre-70,000 are all under construction and are billed to be the five largest auditoria in the world in that order when completed.

Deeper Life Church has built numerous secondary schools, a newly completed university recently approved and also constructing a 130,000 capacity conference centre (Deeper Life Conference Centre) at the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
https://youtu.be/bz5dPUEc2uM

Arguably, Pastor Kumuyi’s N4 billion 30,000 seater ultra modern auditorium would be one of the grandest church in Africa when completed. ENCOMIUM Weekly’s check on Friday, February 28, 2014, revealed that the massive structure would be completed and commissioned this year. We gathered that the project which began seven years ago could not be completed as scheduled in 2012, due to architectural and technical adjustments to expand the work.

Built like a stadium, we confirmed that the auditorium sits on an underground structure. According to an inside source, the administration building is underground with a car park. The underground park, we reliably learnt, would take 160 cars.

It would seat more than 30,000 worshippers at a go. It is a mini-stadium and is costing the church over N4 billion, and every kobo of it is coming from the pockets of church members in Nigeria with generous contributions from Deeper Life churches abroad.
Inline image 2
20140228_114715An Italian firm, Cappa & D’Alberto won the contract for the construction. The building will cover 6,200 square metres, with an additional 16,244 square metres for landscaping, walks and car parks. It will be a sight to behold when it is completed.

Checks revealed that the outer structure has been painted cream with a touch of light green. Interestingly, the auditorium covered a whole side of a street. Pastor Kumuyi spent over N500 million on expansion as its ultra modern worldwide headquarters is completed.Inline image 3 depper2

Melody Within Your Soul

Melody Within Your Soul

There are choirs singing in your head.
If you listen, you will hear the music.
It is the song of angels.
Pay no attention to the sounds of the world.
They are just noises, and even when
added up all together
they have no value, make no sense.
Strain to hear the song of angels.
Listen to the melody within your soul.
- Neale Donald Walsch

Who will save your soul if you won't save your own?
- Jewel

The happiness of one's own heart alone
cannot satisfy the soul;
one must try to include,
as necessary to one's own happiness,
the happiness of others.
- Paramahansa Yogananda

From far beyond this life,
I hear the call.
From place beyond all place,
I feel the call.
From time before all time,
I know the call.
From one before all ones,
I am the call.

Anambra: We will deal with those who say election will not hold – Obiano

Anambra: We will deal with those who say election will not hold – Obiano

Nnamdi Kanu

Tony Okafor, Awka
Anambra State governor, Willie Obiano, on Wednesday warned the Indigenous People of Biafra to steer clear of the state during the November 18 poll.
The governor threatened to go after anybody who would pose a threat to the poll, no matter how highly placed.
The governor, who insisted that there would be election in the state, said the pro-Biafra agitators had no powers in the law to stop the poll.
He warned those planning to disrupt the election to have a rethink or be ready to face the full weight of the law.
He said “We are going to go after them, we will deal with those who said there would be no election in the state decisively.
“People are free to vote candidates of their choice, you can see that in Anambra state today people now sleep with their two eyes closed,” he insisted.
IPOB had  threatened that there would be no election in Anambra state and the entire South East zone.
It was also gathered that the secessionist group had planned to attack campaign rallies in the state to create fears in the people about the poll.

A Nigerian man, Omowale Isaac Omogoroye, is in the news after he claimed to be the long awaited Jesus Christ and will surely be the next President in the country.

Omogoroye made the shocking declaration in an interview with Sahara TV in Lagos, adding that he has been given the divine mandate to occupy Aso Rock, the seat of the nation's power come 2019.
Omogoroye, a one time President of the Students' Union government of the University of Lagos, added that he has been appearing in different countries of the world as the awaited son of God expected to redeem the world.

He added that as soon as he becomes the President of Nigeria, the government will change its name to the New Jerusalem of the Bible.
He also disclosed that those waiting for a white Jesus to come back are waiting in vain as he is already the awaited saviour of the world and has come back to his full glory.
In the video that lasted 15 minutes and 32 seconds, Omogoroye said he has come in the new name of God as documented in the Bible and that his mission is to let everyone know that Jesus Christ is back.
He said:
“Today, I’m appearing to the whole world as the one and only son of God expected back to life and I come in the new name of God as documented in the only living book, the Bible in Revelation chapter 3 v 17.

Revelations chapter 2:5, 2:7, and 2: 1 also confirms what I am saying. What I’m trying to say is that I’m the awaited Jesus Christ. My mission here is to let the world know that Jesus Christ is back.

No man born of a woman will come from the sky down. It was only a parable in the bible. I’m here to decode that parable in revelation. I’m the Jesus Christ the bible is talking about.”

PDP proposes to stop chairman from controlling party funds

PDP proposes to stop chairman from controlling party funds

Ahmed Makarfi

Olusola Fabiyi, Abuja
The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party has begun moves to whittle down the power of its chairman, The PUNCH has learnt.
Investigations by our correspondent in Abuja on Thursday showed that the proposal to strip the national chairman of some of his enormous powers was contained in a memo to the National Executive Committee of the party by the Chairman of its National Caretaker Committee, Senator Ahmed Makarfi.
The memo was given to all members of NEC on Tuesday at its 74th meeting, which was held at the party’s national headquarters.

The members were asked to give the documents to officers and influential members of the party in their states in order to have their inputs before passing them into law.
Makarfi, in the memo, titled ‘Draft proposals for constitutional amendments’, said the memo was as a result of the adoption of the report of the PDP Strategy Review and Inter-Party Affairs Committee.
He said because of this, “it has become imperative that the PDP Constitution (2012 as amended) be amended to reflect some of the recommendations.”
The proposed amendments are expected to be passed at the party’s non-elective national convention slated for August 12 in Abuja.

In one of the proposals, titled ‘Removal of the power of the national chairman to summon (convene) the national convention’, the party wants the NEC to be the sole determinant of national convention without it being “summoned” by the national chairman.
The proposed amendments read in part, “Modifying Section (1)(a) and inserting a new Section(1)(b) to take away the power of the national chairman to ‘summon “ the National Convention, which appears in conflict with the power of NEC to ‘convene’ the National Convention  in Section (31(2)(a).
It said this was in line with “August 2016 Port Harcourt proposed amendment”.
The former National Chairman of the party, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, had invoked the power conferred on him in Section 35(1) of the party constitution to call off the then May, 2016 convention of the party in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The section reads, “There shall be a national chairman who shall be the chief executive of the party, and his functions shall be to (a) summon and preside over the meetings of the national convention, the National Executive Committee, the National Caucus and the National Working Committee of the party.”
If the proposed amendments scale through, the next chairman will also not be a signatory to the party’s bank accounts anymore.
Up until now, the national chairman is a mandatory signatory to the party’s bank accounts.
Under the topic ‘Revising signatories to the party’s accounts’, the party proved that “consistent with contemporary best practices, it is proposed that the present situation, where the chairman is a mandatory signatory to the party’s bank account with either the secretary or the treasurer, be replaced with the treasurer being mandatory signatory, with either the secretary or financial secretary.”
This will replace Section (55)(3) of the party’s constitution.
The party also proposed the reintroduction of Section (47)(6), which was revised in the December 2014 national convention, in which the appropriate executive committee’s appointment of a person from the area or zone of the former occupant of an office “to serve out the tenure of the officer” instead of “pending the conduct of election to fill the vacant post.”

The proposed amendment also seems to be preparing a soft landing for those who had left the party and those who might want to join it from another party ahead of the 2019 general elections.
Under the procedure for rejoining the party, the proposed amendment states that the return of those who had left it before should be made automatic.
This is contrary to the old order whereby those returning are placed on probation for a period of not less than a year.

The proposal therefore called for the deleting of Section 8(8)(b), Section (8)(9) and modification of Section (8)(8) to make rejoining and readmission into the party by a member, who had left, automatic upon his submission of a written application to that effect to his ward secretary.
But it said, “Whereas, readmission is automatic, waiver requirements for contesting elections and enjoying political appointments remain, and, if thought necessary, would be strengthened.”
Also, the party is proposing that Section (50)(4)(7) be amended by reducing the period of membership for seeking the party’s ticket and political appointment from two years and one year respectively to a “uniform of six months unless the appropriate executive committee, at its discretion, gives a waiver to the contrary.”
The party is also proposing the election of two national chairmen for the party, one from the North and another from the South.

However, “in the event that the National chairman ceases to hold office or when absent for any reason,” the proposal stated that the vice-chairman from the region of the national chairman would act pending when a substantial chairman would be elected.

Meanwhile, the North-Central zone of the party met at the Command Guest House in Abuja on Wednesday night and resolved to set up reconciliation committee to wade into the crisis rocking the party in the zone.
At the meeting were a former President of the Senate, David Mark; a former National Chairman of the party, Senator Ahmadu Ali; former governors of Kogi State, Ibrahim Idris and Idris Wada; their Benue and Plateau states counterparts, Gabriel Suswam and Senator Jonah Jang; and a former Governor of Niger State, Babangida Aliyu.

Bloodthirsty Nigeria 'cult' killings spark fear

Bloodthirsty Nigeria 'cult' killings spark fear

People cover their noses at the stench of death in the Crystal Church of God in Owode Onirin, just outside Lagos, where bloody clothes, drums, bibles and hymn books still litter the bare floor.

Three days earlier, four worshippers were killed as they prayed, in the latest murders blamed on a shadowy gang dubbed the Badoo, believed to have killed 30 people since June last year.
So-called "cult killings" -- gang violence often fuelled by drugs and belief in black magic -- are not a new phenomenon in Nigeria, which is nearly evenly split between a Muslim north and Christian south.
Crime often spikes during times of economic hardship.
But the murders by the Badoo are making headlines because of their increasing frequency and the manner in which victims are dispatched.
"They must have scaled the fence and hypnotised the victims before carrying out their deadly act," Israel Ojobaro, an engineer who lives on the church premises, told AFP.
"Two women and two children, including a nine-month-old baby, had their heads smashed with a grinding stone."
The gang then moved to another church on the same street to steal money and mobile phones.
"They must have used (magic) charms as no one noticed when they entered the church. By the time the worshippers were awake, their phones and money had been taken away," said church head Taiwo Adesanya.

Fear and a lack of faith in the police to protect them has prompted residents to watch over their communities. Every night, bonfires are lit on the streets between 10:00 pm and 6:00 am.
Anyone caught on suspicion of being a member of the gang is immediately lynched, locals said.
Police say vigilantes have killed at least 10 suspects in the last month. Innocent people have been targeted.
The Badoo saga started last year when a female schoolteacher was raped and killed in the Ibeshe area of Ikorodu, which lies 10 kilometres (six miles) from Lagos across the lagoon as the crow flies.
The woman's skull was smashed with a stone. Before leaving, the gang wrote "Badoo" on the wall. Since then, there have been similar killings across the town.
Members of the gang are believed to have magical powers which they use to mysteriously appear and disappear during attacks.
"Initially, we thought (the Ibeshe case) was just a case of robbery," said resident Olubare Ademola.
"But we began to take them more seriously when we realised they have been using the same style."
Last month, a man, his 28-year-old wife and two children, were killed in the Odogunyan area of Ikorodu. Other killings have occurred in quick succession.
The gang is said to drain the blood of their victims into a calabash or gourd, then soak it onto a white handkerchief.
"The rumour is that Badoo sells the blood-stained handkerchief to ritualists who use it for money and power charms," said Babatunde Ogunyemi, a traditional chief in Ibeshe, in the south of Ikorodu."
"Each handkerchief costs 500,000 naira ($1,600, 1,400 euros). This explains why Badoo usually wipe out an entire family in order to make more money."
Local people in Ibeshe have turned to traditional methods to fight the gang and claim to have driven them from the area after making animal sacrifices to local deities, according to Ogunyemi.

200 suspects arrested

Despite the prevalence of Islam and Christianity in Nigeria, belief in black magic (juju) remains widespread, particularly outside the main cities.
A joint military operation has been launched to flush out a number of gangs from in and around Ikorodu, where schoolchildren have also been kidnapped.
"We received an intelligence report that some cultists (gang members) were trying to form an umbrella body called '777' and we quickly moved in to abort it," a senior army officer told AFP on July 7.
As he spoke, soldiers jumped down from a convoy of pick-up trucks and ran towards the Ikorodu creeks in search of suspected Badoo members and other gangs.
"It's going to be a continuous exercise until we are able to make the communities safe and secure," the officer said.
The police in Lagos state said they had arrested and were interrogating some 200 suspects over the Badoo killings.
"Those with no case to answer will be released," said police spokesman Olarinde Famous-Cole.
Lagos state governor Akinwunmi Ambode met with traditional rulers in Ikorodu last week and urged them to collaborate with his government to "arrest this situation as quickly as possible".
